Maybe you could explain a little more about what's been happening, Gressecj? It's hard to know what to say if we don't know if this is new behaviour, or if he's just a taciturn kind of guy, or if something else is going on.

My dad was often a man of few words. It was very common for our visits to go with me doing all of the talking.
