Maybe all or some part will go to her spouse. That would have been determined when she qualified. For persons who have no spouse, the SS check less a small allowance is paid over to the NH.

What kind of insurance does she have? What kind of bills?

You can no longer pay any bills with that SS check. It all goes to the nursing home as part of the written agreement. The spouse should have his own SS check. She will have a small personal needs allowance at the NH. If she is on Medicaid, she does not pay for insurance.

Pam, not all spouses have their own SS check. Maybe it is different by state, but here when you apply you indicate if you want some of your income available to your spouse. Then you have to fill out a whole lot more details about the spouse's living expenses. So I think it is possible for some of the SS to go to the spouse.

But in any case, we are agreed that the money is not available for paying bills or insurance etc.
