Unless your parents pay the employer portion on taxes, FICA, workers comp, and withhold taxes from your check, then you an independant contractor and if you earn over $600 a year, you need a 1099. Shelly, AARP and senior centers often extend free tax assistance, but it's typically during prime time tax season.

You can also e-mail the IRS directly. It's sometimes taken up to a month, but the answer I get is in writing and I keep it with the affected tax return in case there's a question or someone counterdicts the advice I've been given.

Thanks for your help. I'm having a CPA come to the house to help me. I want a W-2 and will try to have my mom's taxes amended. Otherwise it's too expensive for me.
