Where to find a nurse for Mom?

Stephanie, could you give us more information about your Mom... your profile says that your Mom has general age decline, what are her major issues? Why does your Mom need a nurse? Does your Mom live alone in her own home or is she in a senior retirement village?

If homecare is something that was prescribed when discharged from a hospital or rehab and you are not happy with them, you can change facilities, just make sure they bill medicare.

Need more information-- is mom now receiving companion-only care, and you feel she needs more medical - level care? You might want to start with contacting the current caregiver ' s agency, and find out how they feel they are, or are not, able to meet mom's needs. But, keep in mind, to be discussing mom's care with anyone--you have to have mom's written permission. Are you mom's designated Medical POA? and, has mom given her caregivers written permissions to speak with you about her care? If not, is mom still competent to appoint you with Medical POA, I hope so.

I do not have POA but when concerns arise I will usually email the community with my concerns or leave extensive voice mail. I do not receive phone calls back, but they are doing a good job handling issues. I am successor POA for mom and they will tell me bits and pieces much to the chagrin of my twisted sister, control freak! You can tell the medical pros and care agency anything but responses may be lacking without POA. You could always call Adult Protective Services to do a check on your mom if you think she is not getting appropriate care.

Or, perhaps it is time to pay mom a surprise visit.
