My neighbor 85 and her disabled daughter are loosing their home because of major roof problems. Their insurance will not renew policy unless repairs to house and water and mold damage is repaired. We have tried every agency we could find and all say they are out of money and can't do anything to help. They are out of time and don't know what they can do. If you have any advice as to where they can get urgently needed help.

I was them, not knowing any other circumstances other than what you have said, I would call one of those house flipper companies "We buy ugly houses" type of companies, and see how much they could sell the house for.

Then I would take that money, and move to either independent living in a complex where they could transition, or go on into assisted living. They could live together in a two bedroom unit if they had the money or a one bedroom with twin beds.

That is what I'd recommend even to my own mother in those circumstances. I wish them well and bless you for being a caring neighbor.

Pam is right. I was in construction for 30 years. If the mold is widespread the house may be a goner.

Mold means immediate evacuation by the health department, and often they condemn the furniture too. Even the clothing has to be disinfected. This is beyond mere repairs and they may need help from Social Services, because it sounds like they are not at full mental capacity.

bill6162514, there comes a point where homeowners just have to throw in the towel when if they cannot afford to repair their home. Otherwise it becomes a revolving door... this year the roof and mold... six months later the furnace and plumbing... then needing new windows and appliances, etc.
