Live in Northport, AL near Tuscaloosa, AL. I can't afford to pay someone to prepare my taxes due to Chapter 13 bankruptcy payments.

RSVP Retired Senior Volunteer Program. They are retired accountants and other professionals who volunteer preparing taxes for those who need assistance. Contact Area Agency on Aging they may take appointments.

Are you even a senior citizen? Just asking because not all of us here qualify as seniors and would be denied assistance if we sought it from the office of aging :)

Our local senior center provides tax preparation aid from retired professionals.
Also, sometimes the library has hours where you can speak with volunteers about your taxes. Maybe call your town hall and ask what they know about local services available to you.

I don't think VITA will prepare taxes for someone in bankruptcy. At least that's what was printed yesterday in the local newspaper story about the VITA locations and hours.
