Most people that need a hospital bed will get them through their insurance. Covered under DME Anyone on Hospice will get a Hospital bed if they need it. Hospice will provide it, it is typically rented from a medical supply company. NO one would take a used mattress at this time (and most places that accept donations would not have taken a used mattress previously) Hospital bed mattresses that are provided by Hospice or rented from medical supply places have mattresses that have been professionally cleaned and sanitized., Contact a local Senior Center see if they have a Lending Closet that could use the bed. (without the mattress) If that does not pan out leave the bed at the curb and a metal scrapper will pick it up OR you can take it to a local metal recycle station and get cash for the metal. Sorry to say Hospital beds are difficult to get rid of.
I recently brought an electric hospital bed to the Bronx for my nephew, but able to use it. I would like to donate it. Please contact me if you are interested. No charge only requirement is that you dismantle it and pick up. You can reach me at Bshevchenko@uam.org.
