My mom is currently on 10mg of Aricept per day and has been for over a year. She is 75 and was diagnosed in May 2018 with Alzheimer's then staged months after between a 4 and 5. She still lives independently across the street from me but we manage finances, medications, groceries etc. She goes to a senior center M-F 9am to 1pm via their transportation while we work. We have noticed some decline last 3 weeks. I do not know if I should wait until her next scheduled appointment in March or call her dementia specialist sooner and ask if Aricept should be increased. She still seems okay living independently under our watch and is at our house every evening spending time with my kids. I also worry if increasing could do more harm than good with side effects.

Aricept slows the disease down, it doesn't cure it. One of my step fathers was on it, first 10mg once a day, then twice a day. I believe that is may have helped somewhat but as the disease progressed it no longer had any impact, it was discontinued.
