When is it time to contact hospice?

When the MD tells you it is time to call them, do it.

To be honest, I wasn't sure what to do. One day I'd visit and I'd leave thinking it would be a miracle if mom made it to the weekend. A few days later I'd visit and leave thinking mom would out live me. Getting my mom out to the dr is very difficult- plus she had a new dr who didn't know her well and in my few dealings with him over the phone discussing medication, id found him to be a bit of an ass. I did get the dr to make a hospice referral and they came to moms nursing home to do their assessment. I figured they would tell me if it was the right time for hospice based on their criteria - since I couldn't accurately assess moms condition from one visit to another.
