They are very SNAFUD currently. They have family records and intake information etc. I asked which local agencies they have contracts with to provide us with health aids and they say they don't give that information out. Another time they told me that we were receiving help which I had never been told about. My adw was qualified for help under ECOP last September, she still does not have full services as promised.

The gov web says:A FOIA request can be made for any agency record. You can also specify the format in which you wish to receive the records.

Yes, the FOIA does apply to the Area on Aging. However some of their documents are exempted to disclosure under this act (such as most personal and medical information).

Many of the documents at the Area on Aging are already public and you could simply walk in and ask for them. If you are looking for something more you will need to fill out a form, but I have a feeling what you are looking for either doesn't exist, or will be excluded.

The Area on Aging cannot recommend specific caregivers. They are a government agency and cannot support one caregiver agency or individual over another.

You can go there and ask about what help you are approved to receive, and how to receive it. They may have approved your loved one for care, but they will not set that care up for you, you have to do that.

They tell me once they send a request out to an agency you the consumer is stuck with their choice unless the agency can't fill the time slot or you have cause to reject the person sent. I asked for a agency I have dealt with and they said I am out of luck. I also asked if specific agencies had contracts with them and they refused to say.
I have never been so much of a run around, talk to so and so and then shunted off to another person. I wanted to eliminate a scheduled shift and given the old gal runaround. No one answer their phone it is all voice mail and no call returned with a reasonable time. Who is the chief honcho at these Area Agencies, I asked for the manager and was told he didn't talk with clients.

Not here! they are the only one setting up the care. The place has had a major shake up and everyone I knew for many years are gone. Major personnel clean out. Case managers are like musical chairs switched within a day, Never had this PIA approach with direct pay to HA agency.

Dave, I would call my congressmen, my senators, my mayor, my state assembly and Senate and local politicians about this. And the local press, especially if you have a consumer affairs type column or TV news spot.
