Because of six minor strokes in less than two weeks she is depressed, and has been prescribed lexapro and welbutrin. She insists that she isn't depressed, but her demeanor indicates that she is. She cries for no reason (she says); she is mean and rude to others, including me. I don't know how to continue to care for her when she contradicts what the doctors tell her. I have told her doctors about this, but the only thing they can do is to reinforce the need for her to take the medications, but to no avail.

They can admit her for a 72 hour psych eval and medication titration. That might not be a bad idea. Mini strokes pile up and yes they can affect personality. Hugs to you.

How would I facilitate this? Her neurologist or family doctor?

Has your wife signed a release giving her Dr. permission to speak with you? If so, get in touch with the Dr. who prescribed the medications.

However, If your wife doesn't want to go into the hospital she can't be forced if she's in her right mind and isn't suicidal. Unfortunately, the same goes for medication. If she doesn't want to take it she doesn't have to. She can't be forced to take medication.

It's very frustrating when someone we care for and someone we love won't take care of themselves.
