And my mom waited 2 years to get on Medicaid home based caregiver waver program ,,then luckily she was assigned a state social worker who keeps me well informed on what is needed when it’s time to renew

My understanding is that home care prescribed by a doctor is available only for a brief period after a hospitalization, under Medicare at least. To get long-term care benefits (not self-pay), I believe you have to qualify under your state's Medicaid program. At least in my state (Florida), there is a waiting list for Medicaid recipients who want to receive services at home rather than in a nursing home. I am just looking into this for my mother and it doesn't look too promising.

I hope other posters have better ideas to share.
