Mom lives in Havelock - starting to need some services. I live near Winston Salem, NC. Mother js 83 and lives in Havelock. She worked a few days a week up through September of this year but due to some medical issues she had to quit. Medical issues are not life threatening (more trouble walking, arthritis, some gastrointestinal issues, and she's pretty much quit driving) - but mental/emotional decline is the area I'm most concerned with. She was used to seeing a lot of people in any given week (worked as a cashier at a family restuarant) and now can go days without seeing anyone else. I really believe she's giving up because she doesn't have that social contact. Are there any "friendly visitor" or "Telephone Reassurance" programs in Havelock that would possibly give her a little more socialization options? Truly appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks so much.

Thanks for the suggestion, but all that search revealed were NH's, ALF's, ILF's, Alz. Care units, Elder Law, Funeral Homes, Cemetaries, Home Care, and and Adult Day Care. She's still able to drive (though doesn't much) and wants to stay in her home so those are not really options for her. Still looking for maybe church or civic groups that provide a daily phone call or maybe weekly visitor volunteers. May be hoping for too much from a small community.
