Perfect answer CM. Dementia is the catch all term for any sort of memory loss. Some are reversible, some not. Alzheimer's is the most common with, I believe, 7 of 10 cases. There are many resources out there if you Google.
I think that the general public has never heard of lewy body dementia (or any of the others), to most people dementia = alzheimer's. Each type of dementia has it's own unique characteristics, thankfully today we have a wealth of information at our fingertips.
Lewy Body dementia is one type of the many dozens of identified causes of dementia. So the difference is that LBD is a specific diagnosis, whereas dementia is a general term.
