What happens to a parent when a child cannot care for them financially and physically?

The parent is 300+ lbs, has many ailments including type 2 diabetes, swelling, on set Alzheimer's.

The government steps in. After their assets are depleted, they will be cared for through Medicaid.

The parent would go into a nursing home. If there's no money for a nursing home then the adult child would have to apply for Medicaid on behalf of the parent. To do this the adult child needs Power of Attorney.
