I'm new to all of this 😔

The first thing I would do is check with the MC facility and see if this is even allowed. I don't know why it would not be, but could be because of privacy rights of workers to be able to work without being watched.
Is there a reason that you are wishing to do this, for instance a fear of fall, fear of your Dad not being checked with adequate frequency? How long has he been at this facility and have you discussed plans and worries with administrator. I do know that in my bro's ALF the amin was wonderful on phone when I had a question. Couldn't always speak at that very moment, but always got back to me in a very reasonable time.

If you are concerned or questioning the care he is receiving, then I would say yes install the cameras. If you're happy with his care, then it would be just for you to periodically check in on him.

You can buy the fairly inexpensive ones like Blink. Ring etc. that you just access on your cell phone when you want to check in on him. You don't have to watch him 24/7, only when you feel the need. I had/have the Blink cameras, and kept one in my living room when my husband was bedridden there, and was able to check in on him when I had to run an errand or went to lunch with friends. It was a great peace of mind for me. And they now have 2 way talk, so you can hear what's going on, and also talk to your LO as well. Do your research if you decide to buy some, as there are a lot out there now. Good luck in making your decision.

There's many shades of grey between not having cameras at all and watching them 24/7 you know...

Why would you do that? Do you not trust the MC staff? Has there been some abuse at the facility? If either of these is the reason I would relocate him. If I was the director I would disapprove of any room cameras. I can see the caregiver micromanaging the care and complaining of every little thing. If they discover a camera w/o staff approval might he be evicted? No, trust the staff or move him.
