Find Care & Housing
This is my question to myself everyday. My Mom is in her 80s too. She seems fine for awhile then has some complication that lands her in the hospital. It has been quite a rollercoaster ride. Today she said to me, "I am just a mess." I felt so bad for her. Her mental faculties are intact, but she knows that she is losing so much physically.
I try to help her as much as possible by finding docs who can help and not go to extreme measures with tests, surgeries, etc. I look now for "comforts" rather than cures. As far as I know, there is no cure for old age.
I, like you, wonder what happens next. How do I prepare for her when I do not know what she will need? My biggest concern is appropriate housing. She lives in her own place now....but how long can she continue to live independently?...even though it makes her happy?
I wish I had some answers for you...but it sounds like you are doing the best you can for your Mom.
good luck
Lilli
