Hugs! I am so sorry your father is struggling with these issues. I’m afraid that without knowing any more details none of us can help you.

Have you spoken to his doctor about his condition?

From your profile: "I am caring for my father H, who is 65 years old, living in my home with age-related decline, arthritis, depression, diabetes, heart disease, incontinence, and mobility problems."

What do his doctors say? Are you his POA/HCPOA? (I hope so, if he's living with you!)

What's the next step? If he's only 65, you aren't that old. Do you work outside the home? Or did you give up a job to become his fulltime caregiver?

Since he is having amputations, it sounds as if this could possibly be from complications from cellulitis. I'm just guessing. This is a serious infection and can can cause someone to become septic and since your father is diabetic, it is likely. Diabetes complicates things that others could easily get over, as I'm sure you probably already know. If he is septic, that could be why he is somewhat delirious.

I'm sorry your dad and your family are going through this.

I am not clinically trained, however, my father had diabetes and while in the hospital he became delirious the doctor said it was due to his diabetes. He did get better after a period of time, by the he was released he was ok. So sorry about this.

Your profile says Dad is diabetic. The problems you listed come from being a diabetic. Amputation usually comes from gangrene. This is caused by bad circulation. Diabetes will cause someone to be "out of it".

I think you need to talk to his doctors to find out what is going on.
