They get short with him, disrespectful. Won't help him, thank God he does so much by himself with minimum help. They don't have time to dial a phone number, so he does have the important ones coded. 1 through 10. He was falling off his bed, hitting his bed and begged for months for a new bed, finally he did get one. He know to the tee how much money he has, they tried that a few times and he was right. There are so many things he goes through, like they insist a couch be pushed up against the walking rail as he and others unstable can use to walk to the elevator. They refuse to move it. He asked if they would just move it 12 inches away so he doesn't have to walk in front of it, then losing his way standing in the middle of the lobby. I just want help finding him the right facility that will treat him as a blind human man. Can you help me PLEASE! Needs assistant living for the blind. I am his sister I am 68 years old. If I thought for a minute I could care for him I would, but as you know as we get older things become harder. Harder for me as well. Please get back to me as soon as possible. He is more on the independent side, not just sitting around in another world, I believe they would rather have those type patients, as terrible as that sounds, please take no offense to my point of view,

Sincerely, Helena

Helen, do you mean Melbourne Victoria Australia? If so, send me a private message and I’ll see if I can find out more.

Yes and because we are a world wide forum we cannot help u find a place for your brother.

I suggest you call your County Disability Dept and ask if they can help. Your brother should get training in being able to do his ADLs. Also, disabled people have rights. There are disability laws to protect ur brother. The AL may be in violation putting a couch in front of the bars.

Please remove all the personal info that is in your profile.

You are in Melbourne, FL

How old is your brother?

Does he have a legal guardian?

Is he on Medicaid?

His PoA or guardian needs to deal with this. If he has a court-appointed guardian, then contact this person to express your concerns. Please bring evidence to support your case.

If he doesn't have a PoA or guardian it would be best for him to create one.

Also, his PoA/guardian can contact an ombudsman where your complaints can be reviewed (this is if the admins of the facility don't act to fix the problems).
