Numerous things can cause swallowing problems. Stroke. Brain injury. End stage dementia.

Has your husband seen his doctor regarding his swallowing? There are tests that can be done to pinpoint how severe his swallowing issue is and what kind of foods and drinks he should be having. If he's only drinking liquids he's going to lose too much weight and that will cause other problems.

Melody, my Dad had an issue where anything he ate or drank would go into his lungs and he would have a coughing fit. Some times this is an age issue, my Dad was 95 so his body could no longer handle swallowing correctly as the flap wasn't working correctly and surgery was out of the question.

My mother had this problem. Our doctor was very helpful in solving this matter.
