My mom is living at her home and my MIL is living at a facility where they have a no-visitors policy. For my mom, my little ones and I are planning to do a porch visit. She will love seeing them. For my MIL, we will try to do a window visit. The whole situation doesn't seem as personal since we can't get close and speaking through a window isn't ideal, but I am understanding and wanting to keep everyone safe and healthy. Maybe some creative ideas could help?

Would love to hear what families are doing to make Mother's Day special and close.

I’m going to paint a Mother’s Day card with watercolor (my new quarantine hobby) and call her by Zoom. 💕

Thank you for the idea JuliaRose. I think my little ones and I will collaborate on a painting. That will be an interesting and unpredictable result. Thank goodness for technology.

Hi, it's so hard right?! My mom is in AL and they are asking us to do a Mothers Day Parade. So between 11-12, we can drive up the circle drive with our decorated cars etc, and somehow they will have the moms available to see us all pass by and wave. Maybe you could ask your moms place to do that? We are excited to do that.

Hi Rocko21, that is really nice and creative of the AL team to organize. The parade will make for some beautiful moments and big smiles. I can see the streamers and hear the music and car horns. Not sure the team at my mom's place will be able to organize a parade by this Sunday, but I will let them know for future events.

Maybe for your MIL if you are able to see her at the window, you could make up a few big signs using pretty different colours of bristle boards, each of you can write an endearing message to her and maybe the kids can do some art work on some of them. I’m sure it will put a smile on her face and make her feel special.

My little ones will get a kick making those big signs! A nice leave-behind gift too, like a big card. Thank you Phoenix11.

I don’t know what my children have planned for me, but I am going to visit my mother through her window in the morning. I bought her a bird feeder to hang on a shepherd’s hook outside her window. My family and I are going to fill the feeder each time we visit.

I realized a couple years ago or so, DO NOT HANG THE FEEDER close to the ground.
One sunny afternoon I found 4 hummingbirds flying around in my kitchen. Then I looked and realized, I put the feeder on a low branch of a tree.
MY CATS HAD SO MUCH FUN I guess they work well together. One cat is so fat you wouldn't think she could do anything, she blends in well with the surroundings.
Yes, I finally I got the birds out, and put the feeder higher up on the tree.

Starting to plan. I will probably have a special dinner and make a Lemon Meringue pie, my mother's favorite. We usually go out for a big brunch and have a special dessert at home with the family, but this year will be different and that is just fine. Will probably watch The Sound of Music in the afternoon. Will make long distance phone calls or use Skype to talk with other family members.

My MIL lives in Hawaii while we live in Florida. We are sending her an Edible Arrangement for her and her caregiver. We will call her and send her a pop-up card with a letter and photos.

Thank you Taarna. Delivery, food and flowers - oh my! The mailed letter and photos are a very personal touch. I will share this idea with my friends who have parents that live a distance away!

Since my husband and I both have lost our parents, he might want to go to the cemetery but it is doubtful. My moms ashes were spread in another state. In fact, today is/was her birthday. She would have been 91 or 93. I never was able to keep up with the year and she swore she was 112 before she passed.
My kids will probably call to wish me a happy mothers day. Hubby will ignore it as usual along with our 53rd anniversary Tuesday. There was a few times in the 80s and 90s that he brought me a card or a bouquet if he remembered but that was so long ago. He hasn't a romantic bone in his body. I might just splurge and go out to the Braums here and grab a couple of malts to celebrate.

I might try a face call again. First one was quite cute really. I don't think my folks had used it before but were quite happy we could all see each other. (I have only called or txt'd for so long!) After waving, there was silence. It was a new concept to talk as well.

Our governor is letting some more businesses open, ie: florist, sporting goods, etc.
I thought to myself,,, florist? Then ya, I'm a little slow... It's Mother's Day Weekend. duh.... and what did I see? I lot of people buying flowers today. :)

It's a happy day when things are getting a little closer to the "new Norm".

And one of our local restaurants opened today for curbside pickup... I tried calling, but got the answering machine, so I drove down to get my order...( Best calamari ever.. in our area, to my liking or knowledge, nor do I travel.) I got in the place, to place my order, and the phone was non-stop. No wonder it went to voice mail.. I sat there with two other people, and a line formed outside for the phone orders pickup. I guess our town missed this restaurant.
This is the first time I heard of a restaurant selling to go alcoholic drinks TO-GO. ???? I was surprised to hear the cashier taking a phone order for dinner to go plus a MARTINI.. I was really surprised. I asked, I can get a gin and tonic to go? This man came up and said yes, he could add it to my order. I kinda wanted to see what type of container... stryofoam cup, paper cup with straw? I don't know.. it was weird to me...
