We had forgotten to check off pension and 401 k plans we had to cash out, because one of us can no longer work and waiting on a disability case. Also family started a go fund me, that changes everyday for us. We called 2x about this and were told that has nothing to do with the 2020 application. Question is, is that true? Are go fund me donations income?

Unfortunately, Medicaid (aka the Government) is nothing to fool around with. Even if your mistake was inadvertent, which it sounds like it was, they’ll come after you if they smell anything fishy. You can’t argue with them and trying to explain anything often gets you the “fill out these forms” answer and leads to a long wait for resolution. It’s possible you’ve gotten the wrong information from the person you spoke with. What I’m saying is don’t try to fix this yourself. Call Legal Aid in your community and ask for help. Or call your local Department of Health and Human Services and ask them. And always keep copies of the paper trail.

Go fund me is income to anyone, it should be reported right away because if they think that you are cheating, not saying you are, then they can make getting assistance very difficult.

You should tell your family to close the go fund me because they are jeopardizing your public assistance or you can use that money instead of assistance.

There have been so many scammers that everyone is being looked at. I wouldn’t go that route. I wouldn’t place a page up and I wouldn’t donate to it.

Sorry if I sound harsh. I’m not a harsh person. I do give to legitimate needs. I know ‘GoFundMe’ can be helpful and I am happy for those who have been helped that are truly in need of assistance. I wouldn’t recommend it in every situation though.
