How do I get a list of assisted living in Massachusetts for a couple (one needing some care, the other independent) that will accept 1 small dog and has ability to handle Alzheimer's, if necessary?
Eastyves, to find Assisted Living facilities in your area, go to the blue section to the right of your screen.... Find Care and Housing... click on what you need, type in your zip code and a list should show up. Or you can go to Google, put in your zip code and "Independent Living".
Look for a facility that has both Independent Living for you and hubby. Usually the apartments in IL are nice size, plus a living room, and a full kitchen. Check to see if the monthly rent included weekly housekeeping and weekly linen service. My Dad had moved to such a place and I was almost ready to sign up for myself :)
And that also has on site Assisted Living/Memory Care which would be a studio apartment size for hubby, but without the full size kitchen. Three meals are included, plus usually daily or couple times a week housekeeping and linen service.
Now, these places are self-pay. So you will need to see if your budget would work out. And most places will accept a small friendly dog.
One suggestion, move in before hubby isn't able to handle a new routine. It is best to move when one can still be able to remember the floor plan of the facility, remember the faces of the Staff, and to be able to make friends.
