Will she be safe just because she can walk in? Is she capable of standing there while talking a shower? Another option is to get a transfer bench. It fits over the edge of the tub. She sits on it, swings her legs over the edge of the tub and the scoots her bottom over a bit more. Then she can shower while sitting down. Transfer benches are cheap.
We got a really neat transfer chair for my mother last year. The seat rotates 90 degrees and slides on a rail. So Mom can sit down on the seat while her legs are still completely in the bathroom; she swings one leg into the tub as we rotate the seat 90 degrees, followed by the other leg as we slide the seat into the tub proper. Most wonderful feature is there's no stress on painful joints or skin from sliding on a more traditional bench. With a hand shower head, Mom never needs to stand in the bathtub or on any wet surface either.
I went thru this for my parents 93. I had many different companies come in and they all told me the same. They stated that you can not just cut the tub and think you can take a shower in it. they explained due to the tubs drainage system it could not handle it correctly and the water would flood the bathroom. So I got home depot in and took the tub out changed the drainage system handicapped the walls with rails etc the wheel chair could roll right into the tub turned shower. it cost me about six thousand dollars. there is also , in home depot carry a handicap transfer chair. its not expensive about thirty or so dollars. it works great. the shower I had done at moms house but the transfer chair I purchased for my tube so when they stay over they can shower. They literally cut down a 15 - 18 inch opening into the tub and refinished it so that it looked great. You can even keep the cutout piece and they can reinstall if you ever want to. They added grab bars and did some other tile work for us too. It was completed in one morning and worked for years. I highly recommend this solution. So much cheaper and better than those walk in tubs that you see advertised.
I was recently helping with a Habitat for Humanity home. The owner was caring for her disabled son who could not stand in a shower. They had one of those sit down showers that they show on tv. I'm sorry I can't remember the name, but you open the door, step in, and close the door behind you. Its water tight and you can adjust the water level. Some even have soothing jets. It was very neat and can be made to go into the original tub space. I'm not sure how expensive they are, but might be worth looking into. Good luck.
