"Terrible behavior" such as this is common when dementia or other brain disorders are present in a person. Either the Assisted Living Facility is equipped to deal with this matter or they are not. Most often, if there is a brain disorder involved with your loved one, behaviors cannot be 'corrected' but simply dealt with by the proper facility and caregivers who are trained accordingly. People with dementia or other brain issues do not realize that what they're doing is inappropriate.

In a Memory Care ALF, for instance, a person who was urinating or defecating in places other than the bathroom, the matter would be handled in a certain way: he would be wearing adult disposable briefs and taken to the toilet every 2 hours on a schedule. If accidents occurred off of the toileting schedule, they'd be cleaned up by the staff b/c they'd be used to such things happening. In regular Assisted Living, I don't know that such a schedule would be doable; you'd have to speak to the administration about this situation and see what they have to say, as Isthisrealyreal has mentioned. If they cannot manage your loved one, he will likely need to be moved to higher level of care ie: Memory Care Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing.

Best of luck with a difficult situation.

What is the facility saying?

Maybe it's time for medication or a higher level of care.

By Assisted Living do you mean a group home for challenged adults? Was he doing this prior than going into the home? If not, I would say there is something about the home that is causing him anxiety and there are meds for that.

I would hope they are using Depends. I think its been mentioned there is a product that hinders not being able to take off the diapers.
