This gets into all sorts of legal boundaries; however, some of you may have had enough experience to know some possibilities. We have no long term care insurance but within the next few months it will be necessary for my spouse to be placed in memory care. I am still in reasonably good health and if he lives another 5 or 6 years, there will be no money left. We own our home with no mortgage.

The spouse is allowed to keep about $100,000 of the couples community assets but txcamper is right talk, to an elder law attny about how to protect yourself.

I believe you can move things into a trust. See an elder law attorney about that. It's good that you are thinking ahead.
