Does anyone have experience with the Milledgeville War Veterans Home in GA? I stoped by on one of my trips, and it looks very nice, much nicer than any of the nursing homes where I live. It’s a three hour drive to visit. I’m going through the paperwork now, and was just hoping for some firsthand experience and feedback. Thanks in advance.

Find Care & Housing
Not that particular veterans home but I know a couple of vets that lived in veterans homes and were pleased.

2 friends of mine had placed their husbands in the VA Greenhouse in North Chicago and they were very pleased. Sometimes things did not go 100% right but problems were always addressed and there is no place where things go 100% correct even at home...
Just know that there is a Patient Advocate that you can always go to if needed. There is always a Social Worker that you can talk to and the VA does have good Support Groups.
I think the other option, if you do not like the care at the VA you can ask for the Veteran to be transferred to another facility that the VA has a working relationship with but I doubt that that would be any better..I think the VA facilities are far better and usually the hospital is very close if not on the same property so if medical care is needed it is easy to access.
Difficult decision but he will get 24/7 care and you can become a wife again and not "just" a caregiver.

If it is state run, then I think you will not have any problems with it. I had a relative that lived in a state run veteran's home and even though he had the thoughts of wanting to go home, he felt comfortable and was well cared for. Hopefully you don't end up with the waiting list scenario-Most of these facilities have long waiting lists.
