My step-dad was in the Armed Services during the years of the Korean War. Would that qualify my mother to receive benefits?

Find Care & Housing
My father served in WWII and received an honorable discharge. My mother applied and receives a monthly check. Do not pay anyone to fill out the forms, there are financial advisors that will assist you for free.

Go up to the top right hand of this page on the blue line. You will see "Money & Legal." Click on that. There is a line for VA. Click on that.

Yes but the rules are changing. There are posts by experts on this site & well worth an investigation by anyone concerned.

Yes, the recipient must have served at least one day of active service during war time. The VA figures the benefit based on the applicant's income versus the cost of assisted living. There is a maximum amount of income that is allowed to receive help. There is also a maximum amount of savings that is allowed. If your father is deceased, you mother is entitled to receive a benefit as a spouse if she meets the guidelines.

Hi, I just have gotten my mother qualified for the Aid ans Attendance pension. It is available to widows of vets who have served in certain war times, not all. The qualifying factors are on the VA site under the pension. There is a lot of misinformation about this money. The expected change in the way your networth is computed has not happened and may not happen. The greatest challenge I have faced has been the information inparted by the VA agents themselves. But they are all we have. That is where you have to start. But fyi, you can get assistance for residential care or if you stay home and have a caregiver come there. Income is a huge factor as is any cash.
