Mom is going to go to rehab after a fall. She currently gets Aide and Attendance Benefits each month which helps offset the 24/7 care she requires. What happens to the benefits while she is in rehab. Has anyone had this happen? I think her rehab will be at least 3-5 weeks. Thanks for the help.

Find Care & Housing
VA Improved Pension with Aid and Attendance although paid monthly is actually calculated on an annual basis. As long her expenses on an annual basis continue to be relatively the same as when she applied there will be no impact on her monthly benefit.

The only times you are required to notify the VA of any changes are:

1. If her income or expenses change to an extent that on an annual basis her benefit would be affected (either up or down).

2. If she is in a nursing home long-term and receiving Medicaid.

3. She passes away.

Ramiller, See the article. From what I can discern, her VA Aid & Attendance benefits, payable to her will continue. You use them in the computation to help pay for rehab. Since rehab is temporary, seems unlikely they would require you to assign those benefits to rehab, but then I don't know. Others on here will be able to tell you more. Just from reading the AC article, I can say the benefits continue for nursing home care, long-term care. Looking up the exact name of the article if you cannot find it.

Once she is placed in a residential rehab home the Aid attendance amount will.change to reflect the agency amount. Most agencies make you sign over the aid & Attendance portion directly to them.

But what if she is only there for two weeks?

if she is in short term rehab for 2 weeks then home it would be no different than being in a hospital acute care .. same thing only if she is going to residential rehab then you might have to change something ..

For short period stay in a residential home , the VA adjust your benefit because for those days and it will be an increased amount to help with the additional cost. The local VA commissioner can submit the request for you. It will not come until 90 days later.
