If mom gets MediCal (CA Medicaid), she will have $800.00 "share of costs" per month during months she incurs medical expenses, meaning, if I understand it right, if she goes to the hospital (or NH or adult day health care), she would have to first pay $800.00, and then MediCal pays the rest for that month. If she is still in the hospital the second month, she would have to pay $800.00 again for the second month before MediCal would pay anything, and so on, each month. We both desperately need her to be in adult day health care for 2 to 3 days a week, her for stimulation and social interaction, and me for respite. But the $800.00 is keeping that from happening- can't even begin to afford it. Now, I just found out about Veteran's Aid and Attendance benefits, which would give the spouse of a veteran approx $1100.00 each month, which would make it so we could pay the $800.00 each month and also have a little bit more to live on. However, if she receives the additional $1100.00 per month, would that make her ineligible for MediCal? (I love a good catch-22!).
