Can I use my poa to get some one to transport her to the center while I get us moved? She will not be living there but I need some time to get the place set up like her bedroom etc. groceries maybe take a day or two for me since I do this all by myself and I have NO FAMILY IN MY STATE TO HELP ME....looking for some advise, ideas ASAP this is going down on 10-31-12. I have a bad feeling that she thinks I can get us moved while she sits in her chair and not go to respite and we have stairs to get to the car and I am very nervous......please send me something to......thanks.

This is a lot to handle; and your mother needs to cooperate. I don't know what kind of center you are referring to, but some sort of respite care is going to help you out tremendously. You are doing this all by yourself and you are wise to set up ahead of time and get organized, while Mom can temporarily go to respite care. If your Mom is fighting it, perhaps you could talk to her doctor and ask if there is a sedative he/she could recommend to help her be more cooperative.

If you have POA and Health Care Proxy in place, you should be all set to make the necessary decisions. Bless you and hope all goes well.

Sedatives are extremely helpful in necessary in many cases. I know what it is like to be doing it all yourself, no easy task.

Can you take her for a drive to show her a "place" (respite) and leave her there while you move? The staff should be a ble to calm her. I agree sedatives may be necessary. My ex's sis has a manic attack (she was bipolar) on holiday overseas, and it was a nightmare getting her back to Canada. She had to be sedated, and put on a plane. If my mother had to be moved from her ALF to a nursing home she would probably have to be sedated as she would refuse to go. In your case this is only temporary. Sedating her for a while may be necessary. Check with her doctor and let us know how it is going.

My mom has Alheimers and my step dad will not put her in a center, because he is afraid they will take his money. He is talking divorce so he won't be responsible. Mom is very difficuly. He is 90 and she is 82. I have been told that only he can put her in a center.
