Anyone use a wireless motion detector?

I'm not aware of any consumer grade motion detectors than can differentiate between types of movement. Place the detector outside his room in the hallway.

I have been using Arlo Netgear from either Amazon or Best Buys same price at either. They are extremely clear cameras that are set up very easy. They have motion detection you can set how sensitive they are. I have been very pleased with them. I can see my moms entire house and keep up with what she is doing and the care givers. I will be setting up a new Arlo Q today they just started selling. It is for audio with camera. I will see how good it works. It is for both hearing what's going on in the house and I can talk to them as well. You do need a smart phone or computer or iPad, with wifi. to have the app to see what's going on. I also got my mom the Great Call Splash alert for her to wear with the fall alert. It is $39 a month but if she falls and can't push the button it detects a fall and sends help. Another good idea is to put a lockbox from Home Depot or Lowes with a key to the house so rescue or police can get in without tearing down doors. I learned from first time my mom broke her hip.

I have been using sensor alarms for several years now while caring for my ADW. At first I had several wireless motion sensors remote receivers. I monitored several rooms. Then the local shuttle bus started using walki-talkies that triggered the sensors and set off the alarms. I now use laser beam alarms for alarming doorways. If you visit { mainzone knowledge network } blog and search for "sensors" you will find lotsa stuff collected over then years.

I also use pressure sensitive bed-alarms under the sheet protectors that sound of if she gets out of bed by herself

We purchased a simple ($25.00) digital doorbell off eBay and I'm sorry it's a simple off brand but works amazing. The motion system you place where you want the motion to be detected and the buzzer you carry with you around the house like a pager. 50 different tones available and volume level. We use it to let us know when our dogs are wanting back in the house, thinking outside the box always works and no wifi or Internet is required. - Good Luck

We got the alarm mat for my mom. When she gets out of her bed and steps onto it the alarm goes off but the alarm is in the kitchen so she does not hear it. You can put the alarm in any room you want.

I bought one from the Alzheimer's store in GA online. It has saved me so many times, he will wet on carpet if I do not get him to bathroom. The alarm is the remote that I have by my bed or with me. Cost $70. Could not live without it.

I wonder whether anyone has something to detect when the door opens and closes on Mom's assisted living apartment and keeps a notification sent to an iPhone?

It is a disgrace that there are so few products designed to improve the lives (social interaction, entertainment, safety) of our elderly. The most successful purchase for my vision-impaired 94-year-old mother is a speakerphone with large buttons. Before that, it was an iPad for video calling.

Meanwhile we are drowning in tech toys and gadgets for children. Assuming manufacturers are acting according to marketplace demands, we consumers are happy to spend hundreds or thousands to improve the lives of children with limitations, but very little on our aging parents suffering sometimes greater limitations.

In December when they became available I purchased a SafeWander for my husband. It has been the best device I have found. Simply attach a small white button to his underwear front ( or t shirt) I get up at 7 he's a late sleeper ( thank goodness) the moment he stands up an audible alarm sounds on my iPhone & iPad ( I am now on the first level of our home while he's on the third) when the alert comes on then once again within two minutes, I know that was a pee call. When he's up for the day the sensor bings then bings again in 15 minutes I know he was in the bathroom grooming. Then multiple bings means he is dressing. It has simplified this part of our life. If he wakes during the night and leaves the bed the cell phone lays right near me and I'm alerted. I tried the light sensors at doorways before I found the SafeWander but the dogs could set them off. Look into this, it is so simple to use and the peace of mind is worth the cost. No monthly fees at all.

Why don't you go for a baby monitor? Only you will be able to hear it when placed in rooms where you are. I borrowed one from our service and it works great (except when I am asleep).

I got a "baby" monitor for my Mom last October. The main unit is on a dresser near her bed in the bedroom, with the receiver on the kitchen counter. When the CNA comes at 9 am, she can hear whether Mom is sleeping, calling for help, orup and around. Mom knows she can call the CNA via the monitor. During the day, the main (baby) station is moved next to her chair in the sitting room. Works great. We told Mom it's a an intercom (not a baby monitor). When she calls from her sitting room and the CNA is in the kitchen, the CNA can hear her and get to her quickly. The receiver has a button to push to talk, so it works two ways. It was about $35 from Amazon (VTech DM221 Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor). The receiver is portable (works on battery) and can be clipped to a belt.

We tried the Motion Sensor With Remote Alarm from Smart Caregiver. It worked fine, but unfortunately the cat also triggered the alarm. We switched to the Cordless Bed Alarm, also from Smart Caregiver. Both were purchased through Amazon. Smart Caregiver has a number of products of this type.

They sell a camera for $99 at Costco that is motion sensitive and will send you an alert on your phone. The camera hooks up through your wifi and there is a free app to view what is going on through the camera. There are settings for the camera and how it films, motion etc... cheap investment for what you need. You can put the camera anywhere, just requires a place to plug it in. The camera also records sound if you need it.

Additional information on Smart Caregiver products (since I can't edit the original response). The motion sensor and the bed alarm use the same alarm unit. The alarm unit is fairly small and totally portable. I slept with it under my pillow. Our mom still doesn't know that she is "alarmed."

I did research online & discovered the "Smart Caregiver TL-5102MP". Here's what the box says. "With bed exit alarm for seniors alerts the caregiver of the resident's activity via pager when a resident is about to get up from bed, chair or leave the room. The silent resident Exit Alarm eliminates noise at the bedside or in room, that may be bothersome to residents instead only alerting the caregiver through the pager. Powered by (3) AA batteries (not included) or an optional AC adapter the Exit Alarm can be placed next to the bed or at a doorway. When the sensor field detects movement the pager is activated - notifying the caregiver. Pager is powered by (2) AA Batteries (not included)."

This has been WONDERFUL for me! There are 2 choices of alarms for the pager. I use the "doorbell sound" (ding dong). I read about other alarms on this same system pager being so loud, but this must be a newer model perhaps.
I did order the AC adaptor which was $15.00 extra & use batteries in the pager (so it can be mobile). I can go upstairs or out in my yard & it will alert me when my mother gets up from bed or a chair in the same room. As I said, this has been so great as now I don't have to stay nearby & constantly keep a check on her. I ordered mine through Amazon & the total cost was about $60.00 with the adaptor. I put the motion sensor on the floor & if her foot hits the floor I know! I was also afraid the cord to the sensor would be too short to reach an outlet but it's not. I did not want to mount it anywhere. I also put a small towel on the floor to secure it in the position to make sure it doesn't get "moved. "When I first got it I wondered how durable it was as it's plastic, however it's worked wonders!!

Hi, for my mom I have installed 3 cameras throughout the house. The camera comes with a wireless monitor and can get a signal up to about 100-150 feet. It does not have sound but you can switch from camera to camera. I have also installed a baby sound monitor near the bed. The receiver is wireless as well. Between both of these I can keep an eye on mom even while we walk the dog. I got a Wander Alarm with motion detector. It chimes and you can select to have it chime at the sensor or only the remote. You point the sensor at where you want to detect motion (I point it at the bedroom door). This has worked rally good for me so far. I got it on Amazon

Looking at the ones ChuckDavis & snow2day suggest, I need one like those models that I can turn off during the day. Hubby is still walking during the day; it would be just for night. And I'd be putting it in a doorway, not near the bed because he uses the bathroom many times during the night. Also an alarm that only I can hear and will wake me up at night.

The alarm unit with the Smart Caregiver can be turned off. The motion sensor or bed alarm unit is on all the time, but unless the alarm unit is turned on you won't hear anything. Cheyenne93 would need the motion sensor, since the bed alarm would go off every time Hubby got up. Again the caution that pets will set off the motion sensor. The alarm is portable, so Cheyenne93 would be the only one to hear it.

Cat is not allowed in Hubby's room at night. Door is closed shut.

So, ChuckDavis, there is a difference between a Motion Sensor and a Bed Alarm. Tnx.

My husband has dementia caused by a stroke. At first we had an awful time as he could not be still. Up and down and walking all over our house with his walker. Our house definitely was not designed for handicap use . His Dr kept adjusting his meds until we have finally gotten to where he can sit for a long time, and sleeps all night. So, because of his getting up during the night so much before, we bought a baby monitor for the bedroom (Summer brand). The camera is mounted near the ceiling across the room from bed. The monitor is very clear and can be set to 'see' when room darkens. We just have a nightlight on. But, I sleep in the next room and lost sleep because every little noise sounded like he might be up. I finally bought a motion detector-- Bubba brand -- that is made to detect intruders. It can be set for a low chime, a loud chime or a really loud alarm. It is VERY sensitive. You put the reciever where ever you want - it dos not go off at the sender unit. We had to set the sender different places to detect his movement. On a dresser or wall it went off if he even moved his arm or changed position. Then I set it under the bed, so it would only go off when his feet hit the floor. This worked pretty good, but somehow would tip now and then-- probably when we changed bedding. Then I set it against the wall under the nightstand by the bed. This works perfect. Does not always go off, but if he sits on edge of bed, the chime goes off. Between the monitor and motion detector, I can now sleep. If it goes off at night, instead of going into the bedroom, I can look at the monitor to see why it is going off. You can also get a 2nd Summer camera for another area, and set the monitor to switch between the two every 8 seconds or just focus on one or the other. I can hardly wait for that monitor to get here. Should be a week because when I ordered it, I ordered least expensive delivery because everything was ok here. Last nite, Hubby was up twice wandering around the house because the voices told him to move.

I do hope that what you ordered works for your situation. As I said before, I got one from The Alzheimer's Store, and love it. The remote only sounds, ha saved me many times. I am going to get a video monitor too, been looking at which is best.
