I have power of attorney for both of my parents and am fiduciary for my dad.  They live in assisted living and I live 5 hours away. I make monthly trips to take care of banking and other needs. Can my travel expenses be deducted?

Your parents should be paying you those expenses. Give them a bill each month so you have a paper trail.

For you federal return, only business mileage is deductible. Technically, this is not a business, it does not generate a wage or revenue of any kind. Read IRS publication 463 for rules.
