my dad is 88 yrs old and up till recently drove a car and had his license. is there any agency or transportation that can take him to doctor appointments or to go grocery shopping. some of his dr appointments are out of schoharie county
Short answer, yes. In our county, that is. In Johnston Co., NC, the Community & Senior Services (formerly known as the Council on Aging) manages the local bus transit system, and we are continually processing folks that call in and need transportation assistance to get to doctor's appointments, etc.. However, there are qualifications that have to be obtained first. But call your local council on aging or your local transportation authority and ask if they provide transportation assistance concerning this matter. Oftentimes it is at no cost or very minimal to the rider. You know what they say, 'squeaky wheel gets the grease'!

If they live in a Seniors apartment complex many have vans that can take people to certain things but usually for group trips like groceries. We have paratransit through our city bus service. There are also some car ride programs.
