Is your mom still here or did she already pass?
Are you POA and/or executor of the will (if there is one)?

My Mom is 93 but not in the best of health. Both my brother & I are co; executors of her will & are both POA. She lives in virginia with him but will be buried in N.J.

I am pretty sure if your brother and you agree it should not be a problem. I am POA for my mother and I just took ownership of hers last monday. I went to funeral home to make prearrangements for her burial and the director helped me fill out the papers to change ownership. It was not a problem.I live in KY.

Mom and I transferred ownership to funeral home in MA..no problem just had paperwork to fill out.

what if the funeral expenses are less than the policy? does the funeral home reimburse me?
