Google MOCA and/or SLUMS cognitive testing. It's an oral test that takes about 15-20 minutes; there is one part where the patient is asked to draw the face of a clock showing a certain time to test the executive brain function. Otherwise, it's all memory testing and questions about their knowledge of current life events (like what year it is, who's president, etc). You can read all about these tests with Google.

There are other longer, much more involved tests that are given by neurologists after a mini-cognition test like MOCA or SLUMS is given, if the doctor feels there is a need.

Thank you. About 6 or 7 years ago my dad and step mom said that my grandma had early stage of dementia and had her declared incompetent forcing her out of her home and selling everything of her. My aunt ended up being her POA of her finances and medical guardian was given to the woman who owned the place they put her all done thru the court system.

I don't think she has dementia at all. She remembers everything. She is Bipolar 1 she does have episodes of being severely depressed or being very very manic. I think she should be tested again. I don't know if she ever got tested. Nothing is in her medical records about it.

She now lives with me and my husband and 16 year old daughter. I have had to quit my job that I liked to become her caregiver

Sometimes depression acts like dementia & is known as pseudodementia.
