Mom is in nursing home but not like other memory care residence. It is paid for by Medicaid. It's horrible for her though and doesn't suit her needs. If we move her to an apartment can she get Medicaid homecare?
Medicaid might pay for one 8 hour shift if you move your Mom to an apartment, which would mean you would need to cover the remaining 16 hours. Would any of the other memory care residences accept Medicaid, or is there a waiting list?
Medicaid is run by each state individually, and each state is different. I think this is something you will have to find out from your state's Medicaid program. Have you been to their website?

Unfortunately, the nursing homes in this area do not provide any behavioral management causing more stress, anxiety, and fear for its residents. There is never enough staff to keep the disruptive and dangerous residents occupied so they don't harm others. Since we have to be there at least twice a day for a few hours to guard safety and bring food that she can eat it is costing quite a bit in lists of wages and buying things. Therefore, we can pay for rent in a small apartment as it will be about the same amount we are spending now. What we cannot afford is the home care. Medicaid does offer 24 Homecare but I was wondering if anyone knew how it worked if you went from nursing home to homecare. Homecare is half the cost to Medicaid but I wasn't sure about switching.
