My mom drinks a glass of prune juice a day but despite the use of her plastic disposeable bibs (which she sometimes removes before she should) she spills them on herself and has pretty much ruined all her pretty shirts. Any suggestions for senior cups, good stain removers (to put on till laundry service comes), etc. The color makes the clothes look awful and soiled especially when she has a doc appt. Eventually we will have our own washer and dryer in the house but it will take some time.

Dishwasher-safe reusable plastic straws (because these are heavier weight and easier to control than standard throwaway types), glamorous ones, in waisted glasses that are easier for her to grip. There are sippi-cups available, too; only I've always thought they were rather unattractive and undignified.

Do you have Vanish in America? It works on most stains as long as the wash temperature isn't too low or the cycle too brief. You can't use it on silk or wool, though.

Get your mom a toddler age "sippy cup". The toddle aged ones are a bit larger and come in solid colors so they don't necessarily look babyish. Also, some toddler cups don't require a hard sucking to get the liquid - many have bigger spouts better allowing thick liquids as well.

Aug 23, 2016, I do have a couple of suggestions. First, the cup. I got Mom several of these: Independence Two Handle Clear Mug from The Wright Stuff (dot biz). They come with recessed lids that enable you to use a straw or just tip it up to drink normally, and a sipper lid. I also purchased the nosey lids. They have a large flat bottom to make them less liable to be tipped over. I do use colored bendable straws (she can see the straw better if it's not white) and I do clip about an inch off the bottom with scissors. Mom drinks a lot more now than she ever did before. I believe she used to be intimidated by the large insulated mugs we were using before.

Second, you might try an apron rather than a bib. An apron ties at the waist as well as the neck and is a more familiar article of clothing, especially to a woman. Also look into Cobbler Aprons, which are basically loosely fit, sleeveless blouses that women used to wear to keep their clothes clean.

I have great success with Shout as a stain remover, but I haven't had to deal with removing prune juice. The lids on the mugs keep the liquids off Mom's clothes, even when she tips it a little.

Hope this helps even a little.

If Mom has full use of both hands the double handled mugs are a blessing. They are only in the clear plastic, not very attractive and very institutional looking. Can you find a local potter to make you some pretty ones. He/she can put any kind of lip on it you think would be helpful
