My mom died in February, and she received a direct deposit check in March. It is still in her account. Do I need to write a check to SS or will they reverse the deposit at some point?

They will absolutely take it out. They warned me in no uncertain terms not to close the account until they had.

Don't worry, they will take it out. Does not make sense as you should get it for each month your mom was alive even for one day. After-all it is her money. But, when my husband died, both his ss and his Vet payment STOPPED. I was not ready for that. I fought for 5 years to get my spousal support and still do not have it. I lost our home due to this. I just could not manage.

After my husband died, about 1 1/2 years, I met my Partner. He is a gem. I never thought once that I would be taking care of another man. I am still very grateful I met him. He is so kind and loving. Loving the person you are care giving, sure makes it easier. Until it becomes sad...which is happening now.
