My mother is 93 and in pretty good health. No real serious problems other than vision, and some arthritis. Today, she doesn't want to get out of bed. She got up for the bathroom, then went back to bed. She has been sleeping all day. She drank a little juice, but hasn't eaten anything. Do I need to be concerned? Is this normal at that age?

Bobbi my mom's 94 and she'll have days where she's kind of out of it. I'll call her and wake her up at 6 PM and she thinks it's morning. Then I called her at 7 PM and she was back in bed sleeping again. I tried to get her to stay up, because she doesn't sleep well at night right now because of it getting light early. I was pretty concerned, but the next day she was fine. So she just needed to catch up on her sleep I guess. I think at that age, our folks have good and bad days.

I agree with Pam, if it goes on for a couple of days, make her an appointment with her doctor.

One day I would not worry about. Several days, I would call the doctor.

Little things like this that I wouldn't normally give a second thought to seem more ominous at her age. Don't want to over react, but certainly would not want to be too nonchalant.

She may just be having an out of sorts day. Ask her if she would like you to make an appointment for her. Your mother may be able to give you a better idea of how she feels if you're considering a doctor for her.
