Here in NY we had to have mom checked by an MD to certify she had no communicable diseases or STD's prior to her admittance.

I have two AL in my area and have been told, if there is a room available I could call the day before to set her up. I would call around and see what ur told. The last thingis trying to interview people to be with her 24/7.

You won't get into AL on such short notice. Pay someone you trust to stay with her for the 7 days.

I have an AL five minutes from my home that will take my Mom while we take a week to go to a wedding. I haven't checked out insurance paying out, I don't this Medicare does. But the cost is no more than hiring someone 24/7. I will not have to worry about trying to hiring someone and making sure there is enough food in the house. Just pack her bags and drop her off. 😊 Really, the room she will have is not much different than here. She will have more freedom and socialization. Actually, I'm afraid she may like it and right now there is no money for an AL and she isn't ready for longterm nursing.

You can find it in most nursing facilities. It's called "respite" and it is covered by most insurance plans. Respite is when your loved one stays in the nursing home for anywhere from 3 to 30 days while the caregiver gets respite. Visit a few nursing homes. Call and ask to schedule a tour. Find one that's clean, doesn't smell, and offers lots of activities. Then talk to the admissions person about respite. the nursing home will take care of everything during that time: meals, meds, showers, etc.

Check with your local Assisted Living facilities to see if they have short-term care and would be able to take your Mom for the days you had requested. Your seminar is about a week away, so that is cutting it very close for availability.

To find Assisted Living and nursing homes in your area, to the top right of this page to SEARCH SITE... not type in your zip code .... a list of facilities should pop up, but you would need to call to see if they offer such care.

Another option since your Mom has home health care [I assume caregivers during the day while you are at work] to see what would be their rates for over-night care. Usually Agencies need a week's notice.
