Do they sometimes consider living in? I have decided when my partner gets worse, I am going to hire a caregiver, maybe two. One for days and one for nights. At least he would be at home. I keep my house pretty clear of any obstacles. We had a fire and everything went into storage while they rebuilt our home. When it was done, I only put back into the house what we absolutely need. Having a clear house with open pathways and no clutter had helped me mentally care for my sweet sweet man.

Call a Caregiving agency to find roud the clock care. Perhaps your partner could go into a facility for a respite period of a week or two? What if something happens that you are not able to return in a few days? Have everything planned in case the completely unexpected happens.

Unfortunately, I called Home Health and they do not have in home caregivers. Just what we have now, a nurse once a week and PT twice a week. But, these run out. We live in a small town. I was thinking of doing an ad in the paper. I would be willing for a mother with a child to move into our extra room. I was just told that I need a biopsy in my breast. I can get thru that, but if I need surgery I would have to be gone for a few days. Where I live, I have to go many hours away to the big city.

You can contact your local area agency on aging, they have in home programs that you and your partner may qualify for. They should also be able to give you an indication of the average cost per hour for a caregiver. Take advantage of any of the in home and caregiver programs they offer. Good luck.
