Just recently and I mean over the last week Mum is seeing people who are not there and what is more she knows they arent there so I am not too sure what she means. I think she means that she sees a shadow of a person but knows that when she turns they wont be there. We have talked about it and she isnt frightened about it. Has anyone experienced this? My mum has mixed dementia...Vascular and alzheimer's and they think probably Lewy body dementia as well stemming from early signs of Parkinsons

The big question is WHO does she see? If she sees dead relatives calling her, she may have a premonition of death. You also might want to check for a urinary tract infection (UTI). Check her medications for side effects and interactions. Be sure you call the MD and report this change and ask for guidance, maybe even a consult with the Neurologist.

I did ask who and she said she didn't know.... nothing specific just shadows although she 'felt' she knew them. She definitely does not have a UTI urine not cloudy, passing of urine regular, urine does not have unpleasant odour (why oh why did I have to mention that bit), no back pain, no cystitis, no temperature, she's otherwise quite chirpy and not sleepy and she's not feverish - and I only did a check on meds interactions 2 weeks ago so I know none of the usual suspects are in the mix - sorry should have mentioned that. I did wonder about this premonition of death. She might find it OK - I find it quite creepy and I know that's a personal thing. I did go and listen at the door and she is talking to them but she keeps saying dont go so I assume its because she 'feels' their presence but on turning they have disappeared as it were. We have a meeting with a memory specialist Monday and I wonder whether it is the new meds she started 4 weeks ago although it has only been the last few days that we have had 'guests'. I rang my doc who said and I quote that's typical with some dementias...so helpful! NOT

Jude, my mom has vascular dementia and has been seeing people and things for the last 6 years. Difference is she really believes they are there and gets quite upset if someone contradicts her. So, I just "handle" whatever feelings the visions bring forth (getting the little kids off of the ceiling fan, fed or to bed, asking the gentleman what he wants, etc.) - then I try to redirect Mom and engage her in something else. I don't see what she's seeing, but it's real to her. Sad part of the disease for sure.
