FF, I am still waiting for the blueberries to benefit my brain, especially my memory. I'll have to think about whether I feel smarter after eating them. Even if I'm not, they most certainly are delicious!

Salmon is also allegedly good brain food - expensive brain food I might add.

GardenArtist, ah ha, now I know why my Dad hasn't put in a grocery order for prune juice in quite awhile, it's the grapes he orders every week.... good to know, thanks :)

Didn't know about blueberries, I am a big fan of them and buy them all the time.... I just wonder when the brain part kicks in ;) But I am regular.

Blueberries are good for regularity, and they're also considered brain food. Grapes are good as well, and they contain quercetin and resveratrol.

I sure wouldn't. There are more gentle laxatives. Call the doc. Ask him if a stool softener is appropriate for the future and which one he would recommend.

Exlax is a harsh laxative, so isn't recommended. Some people do use it, however. A more gentle laxative is Miralax. A serving in the orange juice or other liquid can help people stay regular, so a harsh laxative is not needed.

Prune juice might be a better choice if the 90 year old likes the taste.... Dad, who is 93, uses it whenever he is constipated. He has also used Exlax and it does help, but he rather reach for the prune juice.
