Find Care & Housing
We did on a couple of occasions. In the assisted living, they let me take my mom for a comprehensive geriatric assessment, and in the rehab they got an internist consult when we needed it. You'd think you could get a neurologist or - well - what specialist do you think you need? In skilled nursing it was again up to me to make and take mom to eye and heart doc appointments.

I don't see any problem with using another Dr. but you will probably have to take her out of the facility. Facilities usually have their own Dr. Outside drs don't have rights. You can call her primary and tell him your concerns. He can then ask for her records and consult with the facilities Dr.

Robin, we really could give you a better answer if you gave us more info. Rehab is not a great place to get a diagnosis. Patients get evaluated and treated in hospitals and are sent to rehab to get therapy that helps with recovery. Has your mother developed a new problem? You might want to consider sending her to the hospital or to a specialists office for a more accurate assessment of what's happening
