I have an aunt and uncle that are both experiencing different issues requiring immediate assistance. We are establishing guardianship but they are in Virginia and I am in California. I would like to hire someone who can assist until I can get them both moved out to a facility in California. They might need to move at different times, not together due to mental health issues one is experiencing. Any advice or recommendations is appreciated.

Find Care & Housing
herchr, is the attorney an Elder Law Attorney? If yes, check with him/her to see if they know of a group that does elder management. Another hint is to call the Fairfax County Agency for Aging at (703) 324-7948 and ask if they had a list of managers.

Who is taking care of your Aunt and Uncle at the moment? I ran into the same issue with my very elderly parents who lived in a house that had a lot of stairs, and my folks were fall risks. They needed a safer home environment, but they wouldn't budge at all. My Mom refused strangers to come into the house.... [sigh].

They are currently living at home appear to be in a very unsafe environment due to their in capacities. I would like to get them to California so they can be near us so we can visit often. I was hoping that a caregiver could help me with all of this. I have attorney contacts through family so not sure I need this yet. I just need a voice on the East Coast that can look out for their best interest, provide advice, assist in arranging for care and be my voice as we get everything settled. I am a mother of two school aged children with a full time job. Not the best situation but I am committed to making it all work and getting them the best care possible.

Herchr, where are your Aunt & Uncle living at the present time? Are they in Assisted Living or do they still live at home? If at home, are they on their own, or do they have caregivers who come in to help?

Are your Aunt & Uncle self pay if they are in a senior facility or are they on Medicaid [not the same as Medicare]. If on Medicaid, then Medicaid stops at the State line. They would need to apply from scratch in California. What about transportation to California?

I live in northern Virginia and can highly recommend a caregiving Agency, but I don't know of any elder care manager, unless you mean an Elder Law Attorney, to which I can recommend someone who is outstanding.
