My lovely mother passed in July, and I still have much to do to get her to final resting place across country. To complicate matters, the house we lived in has just jacked up the rent by $400/mo. as of November. I can't move at the moment and do not want to move anytime soon. My job is here. This life worked well for her care, but now I have a lot of overhead
I am thinking of turning her room into a studio and selling stuff online to make up the hike.
How are others making the transition in this shocking real estate market?
Any other suggestions on what I can do to make money with her space?

Find Care & Housing
While you may not want to move but a move to a smaller more affordable place might be a wise thing to consider.
Or if the landlord would allow it sharing the house to help with the rent and utilities. (room mates can be a problem tough)
If you were using mom's Social Security for any of the bills you have that much less in income.
Do you have enough things to sell $4800.00 worth of items that it will take to make up the increase in rent? (In addition to doing your job)

Thank you for your response. I have about $2000 to sell and am thinking ebay might work. I have thought of getting another senior as a roomate, or a masters student. It is hard to contemplate in my grief, though.

She was not paying any of the bills, and I had been paying the full rent for the last two years, so I was prepared in that way.
Demands just keep rising. :(
