6. What are your meal ordering procedures for residents? Can I see it demonstrated? Can I come for a meal to taste some of your offerings? Can I eat a meal with my LO?

7. Can I interview some care givers and find out about what they see as the facilities' challenges?

8. What are the bathing/showering schedules? What are your procedures for a reluctant bather?

9. What is your laundry procedure?

10. What is the cleaning schedule?

11. What toiletry items, if any, are included in your fees?

12. Can I use your in-house doctor?

13. Do you have an in-house geriatric psychiatrist?

14. Which chaplains visit your facility?

15. Do the doors lock on resident's rooms?

16. What's your procedure for other residents who may be combative, or bothersome to my loved one?

17. What is the procedure for the first 30 days for a new resident? How will you handle confusion, uncertainty, unfamiliarity with procedures?

18. What's your working relationship withe the hospice providers in the area?

Thank you for those great questions! I’m in the process right now of choosing a memory care for my husband. I had some of the questions but this list is more complete

1. Do they treat patients from the point of admission until end of life?

That was a huge one for me. I didn't want to move my mother again (MC was her second nursing home), and her MC was able to care for her all the way until the end. Some places don't.

What happens when there is any aggression?

What would cause my loved one to be evicted.

What is the procedure for contacting you in the event of an injury? Who decides if 911 is called and ER visit occurs?

What is the caregiver to resident ratio, days, nights and holidays?

Karenhage: Imho, some questions to ask are - Do you have a Medical Director on staff?, What types of training does the staff have? for starters.
