My husband is no longer able to walk or stand and needs to be transferred from bed to wheelchair. I am uncomfortable with a Hoyer lift. What other equipment can be used? I am looking for something very safe that can be used with one aide.

Find Care & Housing
My husband was completely bedridden for the last 22 months of his life. The aide that I had come put him on the bedside commode, only used a gait belt to lift him out of bed, and put him back in. She did it all herself, as she had been a CNA for 12+ years, so was well trained in how to transfer a patient. My husband started out about 140 lbs, but because of retaining fluid, got up to about 180 lbs., and she was probably about 140 lbs. herself and never had a problem transferring him. Hospice at one point had talked to me about a Hoyer lift, but said that because my house has carpet that it would ruin my carpet. Best wishes.
