My mother is 80 years old. My sister is her primary caregiver. Sister is overwhelmed as she cannot meet all of my mom's need. Mom requires a lot of attention. Mom spends alot of time by herself in her apartment and always wants us to take her out. I think she can benefit from and adult day care to help with socialization. She refuses any outside help but I think that we have to be more proactive to get her some assistance. Does Medicaid and Medicare cover the cost of your services.

Find Care & Housing
If she is still in her right mind she can refuse all help. You are pretty much stuck with either letting her push you around from day to day, or pulling back to once a week visits that make her realize she needs to move to a facility.

millie1, the AgingCare website doesn't supply services, it does give you links to help locate services in your own area. Go to the top of the page and on your right you will see SEARCH SITE.... type in your zip code.... enter... you should see various facilities to place an elder and places that you can hire help, etc.

Also for more information, go to the blue bar at the top of the page... put your Mouse over CAREGIVER SUPPORT... a drop down menu will appear... click on *Find Agencies on Aging*, then click on your State, then on your County. Ask them what they can do to help you.

Many elderly will refuse outside help... it all has to do with not trusting strangers in the house. Plan B would be for her to move to a retirement community where she can be around people of her own age group... imagine all the new best friends should would make :)
